ON THE RECORD INDIANAPOLIS (AP) Three tornadoes, one of which toppled a church steeple at the In- diana National Camp Atterbury, hit parts of central and south-central Indiana on Saturday as a wave of severe thunderstorms swept across the state, the National Weather Service said. A team from the agen- Indianapolis office conducted storm surveys Sunday and confirmed that two EF-0 tornadoes with winds up to 84 mph touched down Saturday, with the first hitting Brown densely wooded South Princes Lakes area about 3:40 p.m., uprooting and damaging trees. The second EF-0 briefly touched down some 10 minutes later in Johnson County in the Indiana National Camp Atterbury training area, where a church steeple was blown over and several vehicles were lifted by the winds.

The third tornado, an EF-1 with winds of up to 110 mph, was confirmed as touching down around 4 p.m., in Shelby County, where it left a path of toppled or uprooted trees nearly 14 miles in length extending from near Edinburgh to near St. Paul. Meteorologist Andrew White said storms caused no re- ported injuries. He said the weather service was still as- sessing storm damage in Monroe County near the western edge of Lake Monroe to determine if tree damage there was caused by a tornado or straight-line winds.

(AP) A bus driver swerved to avoid another vehicle on Interstate 95 in Maryland before the bus overturned, injuring more than two dozen people over the weekend, police said Monday.
The bus was traveling in the right lane of southbound I-95, north of Baltimore around 7 a.m. Sunday when the driver swerved to avoid striking another vehicle and lost control, leading to the bus going off the road and overturning, Maryland State Police said in a news release. The bus was carrying 47 people and 27 of them reported injuries on the scene, police said. Twelve of those injured people refused transport and 15 were taken to hospitals for treatment. No fatalities were reported, police said.
Opponents of federal vaccine mandate seek rehearing NEW ORLEANS (AP) A fed- eral appeals court is being asked to reconsider its decision allowing the Biden administration to require that federal employees get vaccinated against COVID-19. A panel of the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals last month vacated a lower court ruling blocking the mandate and ordered dismissal of a lawsuit chal- lenging the policy, which was ordered by President Joe Biden in September. However, that 2-1 ruling by the ap- pellate panel take effect until May 31. On Saturday, opponents of the mandate, led by a group called Feds for Medical Freedom, filed a petition asking that the April ruling be vacated and that the full 17-member court hear new arguments in the case.
