Bad Boys 4 Box Office Races Past Major Domestic Milestone In Less Than A Month (2024)

Bad Boys: Ride or Die has achieved a major domestic box office milestone less than a month after its June 7 release date. The franchise's fourth installment saw Will Smith and Martin Lawrence reprising their roles from the previous films. The sequel began its box office run by earning $56 million domestically and a worldwide total of $104 million, a strong debut for the action-comedy film on a budget of approximately $100 million.

Bad Boys for Life revived the franchise 21 years after the release of Bad Boys II as it became a box office hit.

The third film had the benefit of feeling more like an event as the first new installment in over two decades. It also benefited from releasing at a less crowded time of year by debuting in January instead of during the summer, while 2024's highest-grossing movie Inside Out 2 was released only a week after Bad Boys: Ride or Die.

Even though Bad Boys: Ride or Die probably won't surpass Bad Boys for Life, its ongoing box office run is still undoubtedly a success. It proves that the Bad Boys franchise is still immensely popular and that whether a sequel is released 21 or four years after the previous one, it will still bring audiences to the theaters, which is no small feat in a year when the majority of theatrical releases have underperformed. Ride or Die's ability to continue performing well alongside the box office juggernaut of Inside Out 2 is another testament to its success.

There is also the matter of Smith's stardom, as this is the first theatrical film starring him since the infamous slap at the 2022 Academy Awards. Bad Boys: Ride or Die's box office performance makes it evident that the incident isn't impacting viewership. All this success makes it quite likely that a fifth Bad Boys film with Smith and Lawrence will be developed, continuing to expand the franchise and its overall box office gains.
