A young aspiring footballer was killed when he stepped on a fallen power line as a storm raged overhead.

Adrian David Feitoza Coelho, 10, was being driven home by his mother from a visit to the optician in a storm in Planaltina, on the outskirts of Brazil ’s capital, Brasilia. As heavy winds and rain raged around them, a power line snapped and fell near their car and they came to a stop when waved at by passers by. Tragically, young Adrian stepped on the fallen cable as he got out of the car and received a high-voltage shock, and fell to the ground in severe pain.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital but doctors were unable to save his life. The boy’s dad, 36-year-old Derek Coelho, said: “He was a fun and outgoing boy.

“The electrical surge blew up the battery in my car and it stopped working. My wife didn’t keep driving. She was forced to stop.”

After seeing sparks and smoke, people in a nearby bar reportedly began waving at the pair and shouting at them to get out of the car. Adrian’s mother got out and opened the door for her son, who also climbed out.

As they began running for cover, Adrian stepped on the cable. His mum wanted to help him but was warned to keep back in case she was also electrocuted.

When firefighters arrived at the scene in Planaltina, on the outskirts of Brasilia, Brazil, last Thursday they found Adrian with burns on his body and in cardiac arrest. They gave him CPR and took him to a local hospital, but he tragically died.

Adrian was laid to rest on Saturday. He leaves behind three younger siblings. His family said he enjoyed singing at church and dreamed of becoming a footballer. His parents were planning to take him to a football academy to enrol him.

Last year, a mum of three died after she was electrocuted whilst mopping a kitchen floor at work. Mimma Faia, 38, from Palermo, Sicily, was left fighting for her life for two months after the freak accident in October.

Emergency services rushed to the restaurant where she was working after she was zapped and collapsed to the ground. Paramedics managed to revive her and raced her to Policlinico Hospital.

She fell into a coma for two months and died in intensive care on December 11. One of her children confirmed her death on social media in an emotional post.

They said: "She rests in peace. Thank you for all that you have done. Take care of us the way you always have. I love you Mum."

Her friend Giovanna wrote: "What pain, dear Mimma. After all the trials you overcame in life, raising three wonderful children on your own, this wasn’t the fate you deserved.

"You deserved joy and love, but now we are left to live with this heartbreaking reality."
